Mv Agusta Motorcycle Cagiva Mito 500 Prototype

San Francisco, 25 April 2007 – The world's only Cagiva Mito 500 factory prototype and the very first MV Agusta F4 CC will be on display at the forthcoming Legend of the Motorcycle Concours d'Elegance.

Cagiva Mito 500: Introduced as a concept bike at last year's EICMA show in Milan, the Mito 500 debuted to rave reviews as the idea of a larger version of the popular two-stroke Mito 125cc – renown for its light weight and excellent handling – struck a chord with enthusiasts worldwide. Now, the DOHC, single-cylinder, four-stroke, sole factory prototype will be on view at the 2007 Legend of the Motorcycle.
MV Agusta F4 CC: The first model of just one hundred slated for production, serial number 1/100 is owned personally by MV Agusta's Managing Director, Claudio Castiglioni, and will be part of an exclusive, special display of MV Agusta on Concours day. The F4 CC is the dream of Castiglioni and gives new meaning the to the term "functional art." Designed by the legendary Massimo Tamburini, only the finest materials in the world were used on the 1078cc, 200hp machine, which include titanium, carbon fiber and even platinum. As perhaps the most exclusive motorcycle in the world, it carries a price tag of $120,000 USD.

Both motorcycles are being shipped over to the Concours from the MV Agusta SpA headquarters in Varese, Italy.

The second annual Legend of the Motorcycle takes place Saturday May 5th at the ocean-side Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay, California, just south of San Francisco. Tickets for this landmark international event are $50 in advance ($65 on Concours day) and may be purchased through the website at http://www.LegendoftheMotorcycle.com.

2009 BMW MOTORCYCLE S 1000 RR

BW Special Report - Edited by webBikeWorld Staff

April 17, 2008 - BMW today released the official photos of the 2009 BMW S 1000 RR race bike. This motorcycle hasn't been a very well kept secret, and the motorcycle shown here will be the basis for the motorcycle BMW will campaign in World Superbike racing.

The photos of the S 1000 RR were released during a speech by Hendrik von Kuenheim, who has just become the General Director of BMW Motorrad after having served as the President of BMW Spain.

During his welcoming speech, Mr. von Kuenheim officially confirmed the rumors: BMW will race in World Superbike. Here's an excerpt from his speech:

"As you may expect of BMW Motorrad, the design of our BMW Supersports will be absolutely unique and very different. While it will of course reflect the usual design language in the segment, it will at the same time offer a strong and powerful message from the BMW brand.

Now let me briefly give you the status of our entry into the Superbike World Championship: Today I can confirm that our preparations are proceeding according to plan in every respect: In compliance with the rules of the Series, the new motorcycle will be available to customers in 2009 and we will build 1,000 production models by the end of next year.

We are implementing our racing activities in close cooperation with our partner Alpha-Racing, a specialist very experienced in motorsport. Located near Munich, Alpha-Racing have already started work in a special production hall specifically for this purpose.

The process of building up the team is proceeding at full swing and we have already filled the key positions. The team is a combination of specialists from BMW and members of the Alpha-Technik racing crew, as well as further specialists from professional Superbike racing.

Choosing the development and test riders for our racing machine, we are currently operating in a revolving system to gain as much experience as possible. The selection of test riders ranges from experienced riders still active today all the way to young “top guns”.

In the upcoming weeks and months we will systematically start production of the racing machine in its individual power and performance stages, testing the new model as we go along."

"We naturally realize that the established teams have many years of experience. But we wish to take up this challenge in particular and have put together a highly motivated team precisely for this purpose, a team which will prove the performance of our new motorcycle in professional racing.

Naturally, we will have to go through a certain process of learning – which is precisely why we have set ourselves realistic targets for the time being: In our first year in the Superbike World Championship we seek to bring home several places in the Top 10 and to consistently close the gap to the top teams.

In year 2 we plan to catch up with the top teams and to win our first places on the podium. And our medium-term objective, obviously, is to win the World Championship!"

"You have been speculating a lot on the designation of our new model. So let us put an end to this speculation today. BMW Motorrad’s first Supersports will be the “S 1000 RR”.

In choosing the name and designation of BMW’s new Supersports, we're consistently following our nomenclature at BMW Motorrad. In this name, the “S“ stands for Supersports, marking a new class of motorcycles from BMW. The “1000” designates the size of the engine, and the “RR” naturally stands for the model itself."

"Dear Motorcycle Friends, many motorcycle magazines have published photos of a racing prototype which we have tested on several racing tracks. Today we would like to show you this racing prototype, offering you an initial impression of the package and the technology. But when you see the motorcycle in a minute, please note that neither the design nor the impression of quality are the same as on the production model following at a later point."

Thanks Mr. von Kuenheim! And now, here are the photos of the 2009 BMW S 1000 RR!

Now with a new engine and other “technical” components dedicated to performance, the top of the range Brutale leads the way in the sport naked sector while proudly flying the ‘Made in Italy’ flag.

KTM 690 Stunt

By Chris Newbigging
New bikes
02 October 2007 12:25

KTM is looking for road rider’s thoughts on the new 690 Stunt prototype motorcycle to see if there’s enough demand for a production version.

The Stunt is based around the 2008 KTM Duke’s 653cc engine and chassis parts, with even more minimalist bodywork and stunt-ready features including a scraper rail on the tail, and crash bars around the engine.

The bodywork is stripped right down to allow the rider to move on the motorcycle – the under seat fuel tank isn’t even covered by panels like the rest of the 690 range, so crash pucks protect the outer extremities of the tank.

Lights and road parts don’t feature on the prototype, but the Duke base motorcycle supports the wiring for lights, so making the change to a road legal motorcycle.

The front end features a radial four-piston caliper biting on a huge disc to make stoppie and burnouts easy, and the handlebars are fitted with a thumb-operated rear brake to allow experienced stunt riders free-reign to try more radical tricks.

The single sided-swingarm is the first from KTM, and holds the rear lightweight wheel, matched at the front by another black-finished rim. An Akrapovic exhaust, Renthal handlebars (with a cross brace which acts as the fluid reservoirs for the clutch and brakes) and WP suspension complete the high-spec concept model.

The machine has been developed as a concept by Kiska Design, an outside company which has designed nearly every new KTM in the last 16 years. Gerard Kiska told MCN:

“We looked at ideas from the urban stunt scene, and we just captured them and implemented them into the design. We based it on the new Duke, as it already has the right dimensions.

“We have kept the bike close to normal riders – even in Austria when I go downtown I see riders doing wheelies and stoppies – it’s a new kind of fun. You can have a different adventure in every car parking space.

“It has to be decided whether the bike will go in to production, we’ll have to look at public reaction.

“The LC4 is a fantastic engine, and we will keep on surprising people with what we can do with it.
